Pacific Beach

Today I decided to head back to Pacific Beach. Most anywhere you go is different by day, as it is from the nightime. But PB even at 4PM in the afternoon had a whole lot of energy to spare. I walked down Garnet (I think) or whatever that main drag is called. The amount of stores and variety cracked me up. However, the one that brought a smile to my face was FatBurger. God bless those guys.

The street sort of ends into this pier, with these Luliputian cottages on either side. The middle is like any other pier, but sides are flanked by these...hell...Smurf homes. And there are parking spaces! Odd because this piece is made of rickety wood, not entirely stable and is suspended some 50 feet or so off the ground...and oh yea...continues well into the ocean!! I see an older guy rocking a white beard (dare I say Papa smurf?), leaning out of his half door and I ask what's the deal? The guy says their like little cottage hotels!! Get the hell out!

Standing on the pier, overlooking the ocean at the people surfing I came to 2 conclusions:
a) people really do look like seals in wet suits. Out of nowhere a sea lion swam up with a fish in its mouth and swam among the surfers. If I didn't know better, the sea lion was using the surfers as oceanic chafe (sp?) to fend off shark attacks.
b) Surfing really does look like a serious workout! Paddling your hind quarters out there, standing up on the board, keeping yourself stable while you're sitting around...man! Now if anyone who would look like a seal in a wet suit is me though!

Afterwards I headed to PB Bar & Grill. Everyone talks about it so, what the hell right? Good call! $2 drafts! Half off appetizers! Woohaa!!! A little reggae band started up playing too. So I went out there and listened for a bit. And I as looked out onto the crowd, I was reminded as to why so many people have misconceptions about locks. Sigh.

Locked hair is NOT matted! Locked hair is NOT supposed to smell! Locked hair is NOT supposed to look like bird's nest!! WTF?! Locking one's hair is an arduos, deliberate and disciplined practice. I don't know much about the rasta lifestyle, but cleanliness is a HUGE part of it. Most rasta wash their locks almost daily, and use aloe too. Yes, the ACTUAL aloe plant, not the refined extract crap that makes it way into so many products.
