For sure one of the downsides of living in an apartment complex with only TWO washers and dryers is people will friggin' annex them! For crying out loud, there are at least 3 families in this building alone!! They either leave their crap in the washer or dryer for HOURS or do back to back loads hogging them. Well, when people leave their stuff in the dryer for hours, that's their ass. It gets taken out and put on the counter, because if I was that irresponsible to forget MY stuff in there, that's my ass. When I do laundry, I set timers and watch the clock for the very reason I don't want people taking my stuff out the dryer. And for the simple fact that gee, may be OTHER people want to use the only two washer and dryers available to us??
A few weeks ago I sent some of my fellow single friends some tips on cooking for 1. Tonight well I'm doing as I say, and went shopping and making the recipe I shared with them. Unless you eat like a bird, you can save so much money just by packing a lunch and cooking a couple of dinners a night at home. Right now my apartment is smelling awesome from this one dish baked chicken dish in the oven. All my protein, carbs, and vegetables in one dish.
I am so hoping that Spring has finally arrived! It was 59 degrees today I was celebrating!! So sad...lol. Even this evening it wasn't that bad. It was almost warm enough to let the windows down in the car a bit. Today was the first time I did NOT need heat in my car for the drive home!
Some people look forward to summer because it warms up, they get to go to the beach, wear more looser or revealing clothes - eh whatever. Unless I'm on St. Thomas and can head to Magen's Bay or Coki Pointe beach, one of the big things about Summer for me is the movies! While following the stats for the Super Bowl I noticed the plethora of kick ass movies coming out this summer. On the top of my list in no order per se:
1. War of the Worlds
- loved the original, they had better not screw it up!
2. Batman Begins
- Been a HUGE fan of Batman, and sorry to say Batman (1989) to date is the best one and the yard stick to measure all others. Taking the story to the beginning fascinates me and look forward seeing what they do with it. Not to mention the cast!! Morgan Freeman, Michael Cane, Gary Oldman...come on??
3. Fantastic 4
- This one took me by surprise because up until today I had no idea they were making another Marvel movie. If Marvel keeps this up, they're going to need to create comics for movies! The special effects look hot and Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis is in it, 2 actors I dig.
4. Star Wars
- Samuel L. Jackson isn't going out like a punk!
5. Sin City
- New on my radar and intriguing because of the direction the cinematography is going in.
6. XXX: State of the Union
- Simple curiosity.
Last night was another happy hour with the guys from work. Total and complete comedy. People totally acting out. I had to leave early (at 10PM!) and a good thing too. There's only so much smoke, beer, and random bar bantar I can deal with . Almost everyone there was cool, but then to think I have to do meetings with someone of these people, and that thought just cracked me up. I did happen to meet someone who worked in another of our buildings and friends with some folks I know, who wants to learn salsa. This is great because this woman is 5'8! I've been wanting to salsa, but doing it with someone significantly shorter than me is not fun. The other random thing we both go to the same dance studio, she on Saturdays for jazz and me on Sundays for Hip Hop. Go figure! I haven't started my class yet, but looking forward to it!
On the way home last night I noticed how the snow is slowly melting and got to wondering if there is anymore snow to come. Now the roads and walkways are all slushy. I have GOT to wash my car tomorrow and get that salt and crap off of it. This guy in my complex, somehow no matter how much it snows or rains his Jeep Grand Cherokee ALWAYS looks pristine!
I have to write about this immediately because it's such a cool thing. So tonight, I was dropping off the rent at the business office. Actually just slipping it under the door and there's this girl and her mom (?) doing the same thing right before me. The kid couldn't have been more than 8-10 years old. She seemed a little developmentally challenged, but she was she cracked me up with this conversation:
Her: What are you doing?
Me: Paying my rent.
Her: Will they get it in?
Me: Sure they will, when they come in the morning they'll see it lying on the floor.
Her: You SURE they'll see it?
Me: Yea, see you can see a little bit of it under the door on the other side.
Her: What's your name?
Me: Tony, what's yours?
Her: Mandy! Cool bag! (I was wearing my over the shoulder bag)
Mom: Come on Mandy, let's go. (Mom starting to get really annoyed)
Mandy: What's your name?
Me: Tony, your mom is talking to you. I think it's time to go.
Mandy: Will you walk me down the stairs?
Me: Sure (she reaches for my hand) her we go.
Mandy: You want to hear me sing?
[We haven't even taken the first of only 8 steps yet]
Mom: Come on Mandy we really have to go! (she is officially pissed now)
[We walk down the stairs]
Mandy: You want to hear me sing a song?
Me: I think it's time for you to go now, your mom is calling you.
Mandy: What's your name?
[We're all outside and mom is in the car, starting it and yelling for her]
Me: [Moving towards my car] You guys have a good night!
The kid is still talking all this time, trying to get my attention.
I didn't feel for the kid, it was the mom who really didn't have any patience. May be the mom was tired or she was thinking, here she goes again talking to strangers. How am I gonna brush off the girl off and tell the kid to go to hell? Especially seeing the girl was having some issues. All good in my book. Those darned kids.
