Padres vs. Marlins

Cut to the chase: the Marlins won.

This was my first professional baseball game. No doubt you're reading that dubiously. Yes, yes my FIRST professional baseball game!! Get off my back now!! lol I've been to professional basketball games, college baseball and basketball...so stop with the hate mail! LOL Kara most graciously gave me a pair of tickets she had originally gotten for them. It was a kick ass time!! I took my friend Jennifer with me and it turned into a read comedic event. Oh yea - and people were NOT joking about how fucking expenisive stuff is at the ball park!!! $7.50 for beer! $6.00 for nachos!!! $4.50 for peanuts!! Of course I had to have at least a beer and ball park hot dog.

Then at the end of the night there was a kick ass fireworks show that seemed to last forever. They got their money's worth that night!

Earlier today I went on a cleaning frenzy, hitting almost everywhere in the apartment. Having the couch makes the apartment feel a bit more like a home. It's the single biggest piece that i wanted, so now I can focus on other responsiblities. May be towards the end of the summer I'll have some sort of house warminng. Just the thought of that is a little unnerving. A 'house' to 'warm'? Wow.

Breaking up and drinking up

This was a long ass week! And I needed a dirty used filthy beverage...the complete opposite of *virgin*. Which was supposed to happen because I had a date scheduled and part of the night was going to be spent doing some of that. Well a headache that escalated into a migraine put the kibash on that idea.

I called my friend Kristin up to see what she was doing. We hadn't seen each other since her surgery and I owed her a CD since the party. The party that happened in February!! Hanging out with her turned out to be a lot of fun. We went and saw The Break-Up, which was aiight. I personally don't get the whole big deal about it. There were some shocking and funny moments, but on a whole it was just alright. May be I was subconciously comparing it Wedding Crashers. Crashers had much better writing, the delivery had a much better tempo, and was just wittier. I felt most of the good bits of the movie was in the trailer. Kristin said I was being too loud because the people next to her were glaring at me when I made a loud comment. I'm a shouter what can I say? LOL

And oh yea, I got to have my Irish Car Bomb!! Mmmm!!!

Promises To Be Kept

This entry is for me. I was thinking about whether I was going to write this entry for the world to see, as it may come off like some sort of ego-boosting, self effacing attempt to pat myself on my back. But it's not for anyone else reading. It's for me.

Last night I did my first night of volunteering at the San Diego Food Bank. A bunch of us, some 8-10 kids ages 10-14 or so, and a few older teenaager, and a couple of adults were creating care packages for families in San Diego. I had a helluva time finding the place. It would have been VERY helpful if they had a sign that said "Enter here" or even "Entrance". And then when I finally found out where to enter and got there, the volunteer leader was like all, "oh yea, the entrance is on the directions...I guess some people don't like reading directions". I just looked at her.

Anyway, I showed up and one lady was like, "oh yay, we have a big strong man here this time". That was a harbinger of things to come! If it needed to be opened, schlepped, broken down or required muscle for anything I was there. Which was totally fine by me, because looking around most of the volunteers were half of my size or less. Armed with a box cutter and a lot of pent up frustration (other aspect of my live) I went around ripping open palettes of rice, busting open boxes of juice, slicing and stacking canned vegetables. I was DRENCHED in sweat by the end. No workout was needed this day at all.

In the end we did very well. The organizer said in a 2 hour shift in the evenings, they usually make 200 boxes of food stuff for distribution. We got a late start and ended a little early, so in 90 minutes we knocked out 280 boxes!! Those boxes will be going to families in Chula Vista who are in need.

On the one hand, I'm glad I did what I did. I am working to keep a promise I made long before I came to California. Then on the other hand, I don't want to get full of myself for the work I did. It was good to sweat for someone else though.

Earlier in the morning my couch arrived. :) I friggin' love it! It was weird because I have to consciously make myself sit on it. I've been so used to sitting on the floor, now having somewhere to sit is going to take some getting used to. :) Me happy.

Sweatin'

I have a bit of a routine, that really does switch up enought to hopefully keep my body guessing. MWF I do strength, core, and at least 45 minutes of cardio. All told those days are about 2-2.5 hrs in the gym. TTH I do strictly cardio. All of those days I stretch. Sat or Sun I may head to the lake and walk/run or lately I've been getting invited to a pick-up game oragnized by some guys at work. Oh yea, and I try to make myself eat 4-5 meals a day. The weekends are tough because at least at on work days, I'm up at at set times and the schedule is more straightforward. Still on the weekends, for at least one night I let myself do whatever. Beer, drinks, junk food, you name it.

Tonight in lieu of my usual time on the elliptical I was on the treadmill. Now for the same period of time on either machine, I sweat more on the treadmill. WTF?! Does more sweat equal more work? And how much more am I working on the treadmill than on the elliptical? My friend suggested may be it's because the treadmill isn't as low impact as the elliptical. Well dammit all - I sweat. My shirt was drenched back and front. After 50 minutes on the treadmill, I did another 20 on a stationary bike. Sweat was dripping from my arms. I could feel sweat on my scalp under my locks. And you know what? I feel fucking great!!!

I haven't weighed myself in about month or so. Part of me doesn't want to because I may very well have *gained* weight due to the strength training. And I do see more definition. Shoulders, triceps, biceps, and even some pectoral definition. I may be smoking crack but I think my love handles are starting to trim down some. That same friend who suggested the difference between the elliptical and treadmill also said that I looked "trimmer and healthier" I hope that's good!! LOL One thing is for certain, my clothes are starting to fit a little differently. Usually around now I start to slip back, but I'm keeping on track. For health reasons, for seeing my family in December in St. Thomas, and for my overall well being...I'm sticking to this.

Got a long ways to go, but I'm motivated again!!!

Will You SHUT UP?!

I wasn't going to write this entry until I saw Dennis Leary's character on Rescue Me encounter the same thing. Leary's character picks up a chick who is younger than he is. This chick is hot. Smoking. Body from hell. Chemistry is going off. Mating season is definitely about to follow. One small problem: the girl will NOT shut up!!!

Recently I was dating this girl who we will call 'Linda', because well that's her name. Linda was about 25-26, kinda sheltered, kinda ghetto (I don't like prissy or stuck up chicks) and seemed like a lot of fun. At first. Like Leary's situation we hit it off. She had a banging body and the chemistry was undeniable. However the girl could NOT go 10 minutes without being saying SOMETHING. We would be watching TV, she'd turn around and blab out some totally nonsensical unrelated piece of detritus. In the middle of the show!! It would be a nice time out, very scenic and totally chill...she'd fuck it up with some dumbass comment about one of her stupid girlfriends.

Ordinarily I like conversation. I like give and take. Verbal tennis if you will. But this chick wasn't interested in conversation. She just liked the sound of her own voice!!!
