Sunday Football

The main reason why to get HDTV in my opinion is football and Sportscenter on Sundays. The downside of all that glorious high definition programming is watching your team get its ass handed to them in brilliant color and surround sound. WTF is going on with the Chargers?? Grrr!!!

Kelly made us an honest to goodness Southern breakfast with biscuits, sausage gravy and eggs. Nummy. Remind me, not to check my cholesterol for at least another 3 weeks. haha! We stayed in and watched football for most of the day and ate.

Another mental note: use less olive oil on the wings for the marinade. The olive oil dripped off onto the burners of the grill and I get myself 2 ft tall flames as a thank you!

Tossed!

MySpace has these bulletins about wild nights out and what not, and a lot of them I can't really enter anything for. However tonight changed a few of those things. Mwhahaha! The list of things on my life's list include...
...drinking free champagne at a pretty decent club. Emphasis on the FREE champagin,
...taking a car load of people to Tj,
...seeing what happens when some girls go to strip clubs,
...getting tosse out of a strip club,
...and ending the night way to sober.

I was DD this night, so I could NOT get hammered. Rather I got to sit back and watch people do what they do when they get drunk off their ass. I get to be the witness to their drunken stumbling, bumbling, fumbling and tumbling...and then recount it for them later in poignant painful platitude filled detail!! LOL Being responsible really does suck sometimes.

One last thing, one member in our party totally reminded me about the necessity of living in the moment. Sigh.

Something Evil Comes this Way...hehe

Kelly flies in today. Lions and Tigers and Bears oh my! haha! First stop Visions! And my man is there! Wooohaaa!! Yet AGAIN I am hooked up. Thank goodness for dope ass bartenders. As usual the place delivered a mellow and chill vibe. There weren't many folks in there. We even ran into Juia! It was a very good first night in SD!

Decor

Since January I've been looking at blank walls. I haven't put anything on or through my walls because I knew someday I would paint. About a month or 2 ago I started not liking going home. I would do anything to avoid spending time in my place. I'd go to work, then go somewhere anywhere and just go home sleep. It occured to me that that even though I pay for the priviledge of living in my nice complex and townhouse, it's not *mine*. Aside from removing the popcorn from the ceiling I hadn't done anything else. So I embarked on a mission to make the place my own. Easiest way they say to do that is with some paint and that's what I did. Yesterday's Akilah's sister Chris came over and painted downstairs and I got hooked up. For all the work and the 4 different colors...yea, she took care of me. I walked in and was FLOORED. All of the colors save for may be one was exactly what I pictured. After I put the furniture back, I sat there at the table and just looked around what a difference it makes!

The other cool thing is, depending on where you are in the room, your eye falls on a different combination of colors, and it all looks great together.. One thing for certain is the room is noticeably darker. Not smaller, but is surely darker. The lights that I have in there don't quite light the entire place. There are dark spots in the room that didn't really exist before. Still I am very pleased. And the place really does feel more like home. Time for me to put up some pictures!!

Sitting on my duff

I haven't done much of anything all week, save for install the new blogging software. Well if you want to call coming home, shedding my clothes and sitting in front of the TV while surfing on my laptop doing something. To quote Peter Gibbons:

Peter Gibbons: Michael, I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything that I thought it could be.

Sex, Lies, and NO Video Tape dammit!!

Yea, I'm gonna be cagey about describing this day because it was damned bewildering. We went to a pool party at a place not to be named. While in the jacuzzi I saw some of the most vile and fascinating acts take place between middle-aged adults who have consumed way too much alcohol while sitting in 101 degree temperature water. Rather than deal with too much of that, I got out and swam in the freezing pool which was way better. Kinda felt like a cleansing routine too.

I did make some bomb ass macaroni & cheese and collard greens. What I find most interesting is that the greens were damned near GONE, but there was still plenty of mac&cheese left. Veges winning out over mac&cheese?! What is the world coming too??

Home ownership PIA

I have no sincere reason to complain about home ownership. There are people out there on the verge of loosing their homes due to unscrupuluos lenders and the lure of low monthly payments. So by no means am I really bitching about anything. Save for my HOA. I hate my HOA with a burning passion. They're entirely too intrusive in my life for barely legitimate reasons. Barely.

The plumber showed up bright and early to deal with the running toilet downstairs. It has gotten progressively worse and it was really working my last nerve. To the point where the bathroom door had to be closed if I was downstairs. I had researched doing it and then remembered that my place came with a home warranty. Call them suckers up with the quickness! The online instructions looked easy, but the last thing I need is to fuck it up and have water all over the place. For $55 they showed up, fixed it, all new parts inside and the guy was out of there in 35 minutes. Money well spent considering it included labor, parts and retaining what little sanity I have left.

Today with Akilah's help we got all domestic and we hit the place hard. She's got cleaning the kitchen down to a science. I cook, she cleans. Damned fine deal. Then I dealt with laundry, my bedroom upstairs and some other crap I've been putting off doing.

We had an invitation to watch the fireworks and to a 1920s themed party but after all the stuff we did during the day opted to just chill out.

The Angus of Black

I think the last time I went to Black Angus was back when I lived in LA. I would drive by the restaurant, see its rustic exterior and yearn to eat as much red meat as my internal organs could process without shutting down. Then ride into the sunset, my lower intestines filled with the remains of that cow.

Real man territory.

Tonight Akilah and I went her sister and brother and law to celebrate their 27 year anniversary 27-effin'-years. 27 Thanksgivings. 27 Christmases. 27 Birthdays. 26 OTHER anniversaries to not forget. And almost 3 more decades worth special events and random occurences. Almost 10,000 days of sharing the same bed, same roof, same household, trash days, PTA meetings and whatever else.

Got me thinking if people in our generation can be married that long. My grandparents, maternal and paternal, both were married for decades. Can our generation be married, stay married, be faithful and be content? I sure fucking hope so.

We Lost Another One

In the 21 months I have been in my department, I have seen 4 people come and go. And most recently we had one of veterans leave to enrich their lives in other ways. So in total I have seen 5 people walk out the door, never to come back. I don't believe in swearing something will or will not happen, but I think they're gone for good. Seeing that many people come and go has me thinking about my own place there. Why I am there is not a mystery. As I told the 2 folks who interviewed me, who also are no longer with us, I plan on being there for quite sometime. For the most part my projects are pretty damned cool and my clients are also pretty cool to do work for. Like anywhere there are challenges, things and people that work my nerves and all that.

The one I miss the most is my buddy Kara.

It's gonna be quiet.

Whisky Girl for Des' Birthday! Woohaa!!

What is the sure cure for a shitty week? Or even a shitty month for that matter? Why a night out would do it! Add 15 parts fun peeps, 2 parts good music and and as many parts alcohol as needed, shake vigorously and you have yourself a damned blast! Recap for that night includes:
Administering 2 lap dances.
Receiving 1 lap dance.
Schooling Des at the running man.
Whooping Des' friend's ass at the dance off.
And something like 200 friggin pics at the end of the night. Woohaaa!!

My gf is hella cool. Why? Because even after all the drinking and dancing and slut-man-whore dancing I did, she didn't trip at all. It was great to finally have her out and dancing. They even pulled her ass on the dance floor! I turn around and they got her 'leaning like a cholo'. Holy shit! Ms-I-Don't-Do-Clubs...I guess I'm a bad influence. Thanks babe for being our DD!

Me and my gurl

I needed to give JM a lift...hehe

Drinking Night September 2007 Edition

It'll be almost a year since my first official Game Night last November. Almost a year since a small cute, innocent looking blond gal handed all the boys their asses at poker. Almost a year since I discovered, that a chick can make a great drinking buddy. And almost a year since me and my girlfriend first officially hung out. The irony of that though is, my current gf came with another chick that thought I was into her. So she brought my gf to kinda run interference. I have to look back and laugh because as good looking as that chica was, I had no interest in hooking up with her. But I guess I should be thankful for her introducing me to my current gf. hehe.

Anyway for tonight's Drinking Night a lot of the people from last year's game night showed up. Drinking Night, what our monthly happy hour has become to be called, is really an excuse for all of us to just talk crap, vent about crap and drink a lot of crap. It's much better than going to a bar because for those who don't have a designated, they can sleep it off and head out in the morning.

Tonight got me to thinking about the people who I THOUGHT I would have bonded with since then, the ones I actually bonded with and the ones who just fell the wayside. It's interesting how things change.

Mini-vacation on Mission Bay

We needed to get away. But we couldn't full ON get away. The next best thing is to go to a luau here in town! We ended up getting a pretty cool deal. The view from the room was off da hook!! The view of Mission Bay knocked my socks off. Even as I type this I am reliving some of the vertigo I had looking over our 12th floor balcony. Yeesh.

The luau was hella cool. One annoying bit was, we couldn't have any of the coconut chicken from the kid's buffet table. What kinda crap is that?! If you couldn't offer it on the adult menu, at least let the adults get some. Dude. I'm sure the damned kahlua pig cost a helluva lot more than that chicken!!

Here's another example of it pays to be nice to people, especially in the hospitality industry. This guy comes by and gets our plates and I look up, greet him, say thanks and look him in the eye while doing so. He asks what we're drinking and I told him. He reaches into his pocket and goes, here are coupons for another 2. Hellz yea! The thing is though, they were only good for the mai tais which were watered crap. So we decided to save the coupons and use them at the end night. So right before the bar closed I went up to get our drinks and the girl behind the bar was alread cleaning up. She made us 2 fresh and STRONG mai tai's!!! Some how Kiki's 5'3-exactly-ass finishes it before we get back to the room. How I dunno. haha!

We sat in our room with all the lights off looking out over Mission Bay. It was glorious night. From our room, the Coronado Bridge was at 12 o'clock. The downtown SD skyline was at 10 o'clock. There was a warm breeze blowing in ocean at 3 o'clock. And we just sat there, no tv, minimal conversation, taking it all in.

It was a very, very good mini-vacation.

Locks on lock

This was it. Today was going to make or break whether or not I was keeping my locks or not. The girl who did my hair before, I think she did a piss poor rush job on them. They were certainly tighter, but they were nowhere near the neatness my first stylist spoiled me with. So this was it. Someone from work recommended this woman and I had major trepidations about going. 1) It could potentially be very expensive, still cheaper than getting my hair cut every other week and 2) It would surely be a painful ordeal.

People who say that locks are so carefree and what not have never had to sit and have someone lock your hair. Good locks is an excercise in discipline and pain. You cannot have neat locks and not be cognizant of what it entails. The hair is trained, but there is a fair bit of work in making the new hair growth get with the program. This new woman used a technique I have NEVER seen before. She had to part my hair, because some of the locks at the roots mingled - one pain. Then she knitted my hair with her fingers - another pain. Then she used a tool to knit the hair when her fingers were too big - another pain. Mind you she is pulling on my hair and in turn my scalp the entire time. Then she pulled each lock individually and smoothed out the knots from the new/old growth while using an aloe mixture. All told the entire process took about 4 hours. 4 hours of varying, but constant pain.

The result is I look good. hehe.
