February 2001 Wednesday, February, 14, 2001 The hell is so appealing about this day?? Ok, so may be I'm a little bitter. May be I think that if you are in love with someone you should find other days of the year to show that love other that just this one day. Aiight so peep this: Every year around the holidays people get into that 'giving' mood. Feed and clothe the homeless, etc. If I were homeless (and I truly thank God that I'm not and pray for those who are), I'd hope to get some help all year round. This goes into a political question that at this point I'll avoid. Aiight, Aiight…so I'm not actually bitter (smile!) It is a cool day! How about we make it not just for people we are in love with, but also with people we just happen to care a lot about too?? Hell call up that special friend, drop them a card, give them some flowers, get 'em fat on some candy!! Haha!! May be we should restrict this to people of the opposite sex that we are cool with…haha! Dumb stuff has happened over less! Sunday, February, 18, 2001 Fish Fry at Helmuth I love to cook and I love kicking it with my friends. Tonight, I got the best of both worlds! However it was a little disconcerting! Haha! Several weeks before I had promised Cami that I would go over to their house and we would make fish and chips. Aiight, aiight…you're reading this…and I was thinking the same thing…why not just go and get some frozen stuff?! Haha! Answer: I'm a glutton for punishment and I'm a firm believer that you can get much better food doing it from scratch. So the deal was…Cami would buy the supplies and I would do the cooking. I should have renegotiated that deal!! We went to Vons and got some really good fish. The other important part of the recipe was the beer. We need a really dark heavy beer to make the batter. Peep this: I don't drink beer and beer isn't Cami's thing so we had ourselves a clueless moment! We ended asking this guy who was looking at beer for a good one. To make things more interesting, I thought that doing some Tempura style vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini) would be cool. After washing, blanching, dipping and frying - we were hooked up! Long story short…they were some of the best fish and chips I've had! Other people said the same thing too!! The batter wasn't too heavy and it was VERY flavorful. The fish was seasoned and cooked to perfection! I was very happy and proud of myself! Why? Because this was the FIRST time, I'd ever made fish and chips from scratch! Shhh!! Don't tell anyone! Goes to show…if you can read, you can cook!! |
