Ignore the edge.

Today I went on a hike with John after meeting up with a friend I'll be doing pics with. We went hiking along this trail called Mor Mesa (sp.?). Half of it takes on you onto the beach. We arrived just at low tide and you could see where the surf was before. Literally where we were standing, was probably about 10 feet or more of water. Kinda trippy when you stop tothink about it.

On the way back, we walked the trail along the top of the cliff and damn that was trippy. I think the top of the cliff was like 15 or 20 stories up. After I got passed looking at the nasty pasty looking men on the beach, I kinda zoned out.

Vertigo n : a reeling sensation; feeling about to fall

I was taken back to a dream I've been having on and off. In it, I'm trying traverse this ledge and there is a break in the ledge. The bottom is hundreds of feet below. In the dream, I would be caught up in looking down. Even though the other side is right there, I still get caught up in it. The dream usually ends as I'm going back the way I came.

On that walk, staring down at beach, the vertigo kicking in and then it hit me. Ignore the edge.

There are days when I really, really don't want to get out of bed and go to work. Today was one of those in spades! Because of my new schedule and time off for my birthday, I hadn't been in for like a week. In that since I've not been, I've been able to have a more normal schedule with nights and weekends to myself. That time was used to go to class, work out, study hard and it paid off when I look back. I need to take my nights and weekends back.

On a happier note, after work I met up with Jane from the acting clique for dinner for my birthday. She is a kick ass actress, who recently just finished Law School. Kick ass. She chose this new French crepe places that opened on Anacapa, called Pacific Crepes. If anyone lives in SB and reading this, you need to go! For $15, you get a complete 3 course meal; the dinner and dessert crepe can both be customized to what YOU want. I got the salad (kick ass!), my dinner crepe had chicken, brie cheese, and leeks. Lastly and the BEST part was the dessert crepe that had fresh fruit and dusted with powdered sugar. I had one bite and had stop to savor it. The damned thing was that good.

Today I got next to nothing done academically. Ended up running a bunch of errands. Worked that night with Mannie; which turned out to be pure comedy haha!

Had my first French II quiz today and I feel pretty good about it. Busted my ass in the library the night before studying for it. Probably got a bunch of strange looks, from the folks behind me cause I was rocking out with my headphones on.

Say Happy Birthday Tony! Mwhahaha!! I woke up today not really expecting much to happen. The person I had made plans with flaked on me in the most cheesiest and chicken sh-- way I've never experienced. Cami contacted me and we made arrangements to have drinks at Harry's. Also the night before Dottie had already said she was taking me out to dinner for my birthday. I am loved! The place she wanted to take me was closed, so we went to Chad's instead. The service was slow as hell, but the food was awesome!!

Earlier in the day I got the add code for my much needed French II class. That alone was a great present!

And, NO, I don't feel older haha!

Today we had one of my most favorite things in the world: dim sum! We met up with Thy and Alessandro in The City and headed for it. I'll spare the litany on calling SF, "The City". Anyway, it was bomb, as Thy was explaining to us everything we were eating. It was good seeing them again. They are cool people.

On the way back to SB, I ended up getting on the 1! Don't ask me how! I don't blame anyone but myself, but the next thing I know, I was driving into Santa Cruz. How the hell that happened I had no idea! But I have to say the drive on the 1 after Big Sur was great. It was like being on the race track. Also the thought occurred to me that if I went flying off one of these precipices, my life would surely end and shortly. Ever have one of those moments? They are most sobering.

First off today was cold as hell! I could use a bunch of other euphuisms to describe how cold, but let me put it this way: there wasn't a guy there who didn't have massive shrinkage!

It was friggin' dope to see. Among the cars were 18 300ZX's, 6 or so 350ZX's, 5 Vipers, couple of Honda S2000s, 8 or so BMW M3s, a Fast and Furious style Eclipse GSX, Lexus IS300, Mazda Protege5, Sentra, some others…but my favorite was this white Supra. One of the guys from the sponsor said that it made 650HP at the freakin' wheels!!! You could tell on the straights when it was upshifting, the BOV was wailing and all that something was under that hood.

The members were freaking awesome. They were giving rides and lessons to people for nothing! So if you had a helmet you could roll in a Viper RT/10!! Which Tasha was able to do! I couldn't do it cause with the helmet on, there wasn't enough head room. Frig!! I got in the Viper and the roof was NOT having it! I had to get out…bleh! I did get a turn in a 300ZX as a passenger and that was TIGHT!! I was petrified at first, but then totally fell into it. Paul (the driver) was hauling ass, hitting all apexes and finding some really clean lines.

The other dope thing the members did was get Tasha's car back to civilization: for FREE! A couple of guys came over after the announcement to get help and offered to trailer her car back to Santa Clara for nothing! Not even gas! They called later on to inform her that the car was delivered and keys dropped off. How dope is that!?! I need to join a car club. There are a couple of car clubs here in town, some sports car club at UCSB and a WRX club. From the little I know of them, none of them have that kinda support for its members.

Lastly, ended up making a new friend in Joan. Her and I both detest the cold and were not driving. We ended up talking most of the day, avoiding the cold and keeping each other company while our friends were off getting rides and/or lessons. I'll never forget are her eyes. By the way, let me emphasize that it was freaking cold!! And I did not bring enough crap to keep warm! Bleh!

After we got back to Oakland we went over to Hoa's and played X-box with Pat. We were doing 3 player racing games and Mortal Kombat. I had no chance in the latter, but the former I was a contender. Something about mindless racing games that I'm good at and love…hahah!

Today was a boy's dream. Tasha and I met up with 10 other 300ZX's heading for Thunderhill raceway. It was a friggin' sight to behold! I had never seen anything like that in person. You read about it in the magazines all the time, but never actually in it.

To recap, her and I were headed up to Thunderhill Raceway about an hour north of Sacramento. Her Z Club was having a track day for members. Members for a ridiculously low fee were going to get personalized instruction and full run of the track. You read that right: FULL run of the track. Most places only give you part of it.

Saturday afternoon began with braking exercises designed to test the limits of your car's brakes. You speed through this straight, and then stop as close as you can without running over a small cone. Unfortunately on Tasha's second run her clutch failed. Wouldn't engage at all. Grr!!! If there was any place for that to happen, this event would be the place. Immediately there were 3 knowledgeable people under her car checking it out. The diagnosis was a fried clutch.

We were both relegated to watching the fun. That was fun in and of itself! There was this one Porsche who was flying through the slalom, almost totally flat! I mean that damned thing was NOT going anywhere. Body roll was practically nonexistent. The other notable was this chic, M3 Chic, to be exact who was rolling a 2002 BMW M3. She wasn't the fastest or cleanest of all the runs, but you could tell by her Colgate grin, that she was having a blast! I love to see people with high performance cars and actually USING them the way they were designed to be used.

Oh yea, M3 chic had a friend was came to the track rocking 4" heels! WTF?? Hahaha! You go girl. Saturday night, Tasha and I got to meet and eat with M3 chic, aka Winnie and 4" heel chic, aka Joan. Winnie was freaking hilarious, cause she was one of those chics who say the hate being girlie, but then go over the top to be 'guy-like'. For example: she belched LOUDLY a whole bunch of times at the table and farted too! WOohaa! You could tell Joan was thinking - the hell is my friend doing? lol

Talk about an offer you can't refuse. Tasha said that if I came up this weekend, I could go to her club's track even without paying a dime for the event (save for dinner) AND get to hang out Friday. All for my birthday…starting the celebration early! Woohaa! Hoa cooked me, Tasha, and Kim dinner. This bad ass marinara sauce, better than I've ever had!

After that we went to this club, that was the personification of 'SF trendy'. Kids tripping off on E, really bad trance and people walking around like they fell out of a house inspired Abercrombie & Fitch catalog. One of the highlights was getting a random dance with this girl in pony tails who I hope was just high on life.

Now why I'm not working tonight, I haven't the foggiest idea. I should be scheduled but for some inexplicable reason I'm not. Grrrr.

Tonight was the first night of my Intro to SQL class at UCSB Extension. It's part of my plan to not end up as fresh meat on the job market when I graduate in June. Coupled with the Web Database Applications class and my B.A. and any classes I take at Extension in the spring hopefully this plan will pay off. SQL knowledge is good anywhere there is databases, reporting and the like around.

So the guy teaching the class seems very knowledgeable. Seems to know his stuff back and forth. However he is also one very sarcastic SOB. I mean really sarcastic; as in just about everything out of his mouth has a negative tilt to it. The remarks aren't directed at students, but everything else seems to be up for grabs. Sarcasm has gotten my in trouble a bunch of times. And there are limits to its use. Especially when I'm paying through the nose for it.

For all of my bitching and moaning about not having a lot of friends, real friends, here in Santa Barbara, the ones I have are pretty damned awesome. Case in point, my friend Nada who is funky dope like few others. I throw that word, 'dope' around a lot. However in some cases it carries a lot more weight. With respect to Nada it does. Tonight I was hit with a very interesting situation. The kind that requires a serious face to face. Ended up calling Nada, talking about it for a bit and then going out to talk.My friend Nada

I swear EVERY time I interact with this woman, I feel better. One of the unique things about our interactions, is that they invariably turn toward the Bible and God. I have very, very few friends who have a strong spiritual side, much less who will openly discuss religious matters. We talked about us meeting and how it really may not have been chance. How we both have had that missing from our lives, but after meeting it's something that has arisen within us again. When I think of some of the stuff I've done, since leaving my church I shudder. She invited me to church with her this Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it.

Thank you Nada. I am truly a better person for knowing you.

Earlier in the day I did a bunch of inventory crap. Oh joy.

It has been dog years since I updated this journal. If you've been visiting regular you will notice some additions…mwhahaha! Ok so on with it!

Today thus far hasn't been really that interesting. Save for I saw Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers. Holy crap that stuff was da bomb!! Right as the fight scene was about to get on, I made myself go to the bathroom. It was so worth it. It was incredible. Go see it quick!

Went to the French II class hoping to crash it. I walk in 7 minutes late. Hate being late for class! You open the door and all eyes are on the moron who opened the door. Even the teacher/TA/professor whatever despite their efforts to focus on whatever their doing will invariably stop and look to see WTF. So I'm standing at the head of the class - the effin' door would HAVE to be at the HEAD of the class. And the teacher of course explains to me and the REST of the class that there is no room. Lovely. Luckily I was feeling supremely confident and wasn't phased…haha!

Afterwards, I went to Kiwanis park for a run/hike. On the way, I decided to stop by Chelsea's to see how she was. All attempts to email, text, call, et al failed. She shut down her site and there were rumors flying around about what's going with her. I get there and I guess she's just back from going to K-mart. Back in the day, I could stop by her place and it be no problems. We hang out for a bit and go on our way. She hardly said hi, no hug, no nothing. The whole time I was there, felt like I was intruding. May be I was. May be things have changed. She said that she's been isolating herself from everyone and I shouldn't take it personal. After about 30 minutes, I bugged out. It was very weird.

So anyway, I went to the park and did my run. It was exhilarating! Funky dope beyond belief! I think I ran about 60% of the distance. Have to make a conscious effort to push myself. I can feel my body wanting more, but then also feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest. Then I take a break and I'm good to go again. Bad ass.

After that Dottie and I went to Natural Café. Natural is local chain of low key restaurants with affordable prices, but their food is also good for you. Usually Alana and I will go to the one in Goleta.

First day of school. Armed with my schedule I make my way to campus with the intent of buying my parking permit before I get to class. Usually the process takes about 30 minutes tops. They have a number of Parking Services reps under an awning, with a few computers. You give your information, they determine if you're eligible, you pay the money, get your sticker and bam you're done. Some moron(s) decided to change the process and NOT in a good way!

The stick TWO computers at the edge of the parking lot, with only ONE rep shuffling people and giving minor instructions. I guess they ASSUMED (we all know what that spells) that people would just 'get it'. Nope! As hard as it is to believe in 2002 some people are actually computer illiterate. One woman took 20 minutes to do hers. Another guy took almost as long. Most of their time was spent waiting for the SOLE person to help them. I don't blame the girl who was working there. I blame the morons who thought up the process so piss poorly! For $1400 tuition, another $110 for the parking permit, you get a tan waiting in line and no guarantee that you'll get a parking spot.

This is my new and improved (ahem!) schedule:
MTWF in class from 9-1. Tuesday is a short day and I don't have class on Thursday. Then I have 2 technology classes at UCSB Extension on Monday and Wednesday nights. Oh yea, then there's my acting class on Tuesday nights. If anyone hears that I'm bored this quarter, please smack me!

My roommates are back!! Woohaaa!! It was getting really quiet. To mark their return, I fixed them dinner. I tried to gauge the time from when they'd get their luggage, the drive there and back and so the stuff in the oven doesn't burn…haha! I nailed it. Damn I'm good.

Last night I stayed in and just chilled. The more people I talked to, this seemed to be a re-appearing theme. I've only heard of one person who Inspiration Pointreally partied and they went to Vegas to do it. So you KNOW it was a party. Today I hiked up to Inspiration Pointe. It was breathtaking. If anyone is in SB and looking for an awesome place to go, go there and peep it out. The last time I did that hike, I had my ass handed to me! It seems my working out has paid off, because I wasn't ready to keel over when I got to the top.
