I
work in the Information Technology Service Center at my job (higher education).
My official title is Information Technology Specialist, but my unofficial
title is computer geek! Anyway, we hardly do anything together (as a group)
outside the auspice of work, so I decided it was time we did. So everyone
came over time my place for a potluck BBQ! Woohaa!! People brought their
deviled eggs, homemade wine (replete with their own label!), salads, chips
& salsa, drinks and other things. I contributed jerk chicken (it's a Caribbean
thing haha), spiced rubbed chicken, a peppered London broil, some grilled
vege's (some that came from our garden), and rice and beans. It went well
I think. We all got a chance to hang out, outside of the context of work.
IT Rocks!!
School
starts School is starting. This means this should be my last year as an
undergraduate. I thought this day would feel much better than this; instead
it feels sort of bitter sweet. Truth be known I feel a certain degree
of anxiety, angst even, about finishing school. It has been a long road.
When I was applying to UCSB, there was a category of student called "non-traditional".
I looked at this and give a little smirk. I wondered about that name for
a long time, and I guess it fits. I started school, what seems a lifetime
ago. I went to West LA Junior college first before coming to UCSB. WLAC
was a really nice, small, and very cool JC. If it had dorms it would be
a very cool place to live on campus.
I
learned about UCSB from an ex-girlfriend who graduated from there, the
year before we met. I have never heard of it before. I went online and
requested information about the school, and at the time I was in my Philosophy
stage (long story about that one), and UCSB's Philosophy department is
in high regard. What really sold me was my first visit to UCSB. My God
the place was incredible! I drove up one Sunday to walk around and check
the place out, cause I'm very big on how places 'feel'. UCSB looked and
felt great. I made several more such trips, and one with my boy Oz came
up with me. He was sold too! He both noted how damn fine most of the people
were! Not to mention friendly. We both left there thinking there were
some damned beautiful women all over campus. Oh, yea, and the school has
some great programs too…haha
I
feel like an athlete facing the last segment of a match/competition. You
ever feel that way? It's odd, but I know that I can do the work and finish.
The disconcerting part is what to do after. School has been a big part
of my life, and now that it might finally be over, it feels really weird…
Kim's
Wedding
Today
my good friend and partner in crime at work Kim got married!! Her husband,
Gary, is very cool! He reminds me of a laid back Tool Man from that show
Home Improvement…haha I thought I knew a lot about cars till I met Gary.
Kim is crazy, sexy, cool too. Gary is a lucky bugger, but I ain't mad
you my brotha! J Unfortunately, I made it just in time for the 'I dos'.
I got
out the house late and mixed up the directions…sorry Kimmy! Their reception
was PHAT. They had it at the Little Yellow House. I highly recommend you
go there sometime and eat on the 2nd floor facing the ocean, it's an incredible
view. We ate and danced like there was no tomorrow! Beth (friend and co-worker)
sang a couple of songs and damn she can blow! The funniest part was where
doing this old school Soul Train dance line. Do you know how funny it
is when people are drunk and tired and THEN try to dance??? Haha! And
can I just tell you that ALL of the bridesmaids were FINE??!! I mean,
it off the hook. One in particular stood out, but I can't name her name…you
can see her in the photo gallery…woohoo. But all the brides' maids were
all married…shoot!
